Press Release from the Women of Brighid and Brigantia

Ireland and Britain, two peoples apart, rent asunder by a shameful ancient history of exploitation and suppression, a rift so deep, wrongs so profound they can never be forgotten.
And yet. What are Ireland and Britain? They are not us, the true
people of these islands. They are mere constructs of the modern world, fleeting entities, mere blinks of an eye in the far longer story of our people.
There was a time, before the first Roman heel dug deep on our misty shores, when it was different. There was a time when the old ways were shared ways, when our heritage was joint, when beliefs were blind to boundaries.
History can happen but can never cease to exist. What was once true can never be changed. Once, there was no Ireland or Britain, there was us, the people of the Isles, the people of the Celtic traditions, heritage, beliefs, blood and spirituality. That which was forged as Truth endures today and will do so tomorrow and tomorrow.
There are signs that more and more people are living that Truth.
Perhaps our joint tragedies are hastening it. Tara, the heart and soul of Ireland pierced by an alien Roman god, Mammon and another alien deity Self, that whispers seductively to the people, turn your back on your heritage, You and Now are all that there is. And Thornborough, the greatest and first gathering place in all Britain, a spiritual centre for six thousand years, insulted, devalued, besmirched and destroyed. For gravel.
And for both, the culmination has happened at the same time. In the very same month. Can this be chance? Or are our ancient ties so strong that when one hurts then inevitably so does the other?
On Brighids Eve, January 31st, the women of Ireland will be paying tribute to the waters of Britgantia as part of their honouring of Brighid and in support of the campaign to stop Tara from becoming a motorway. Then, on February the 4th in Britain the pagans of Brigantia will perform a well blessing ceremony in honour of the goddess Brigantia and in support of the campaign to stop Thornborough from being quarried.
Each group has sent sacred waters to the other. For the first time
since the Roman invasion, the waters of Brigantia will mingle with the waters of Brighid. We are turning the clock back to the time before Christ and reconnecting with our true kin. For the first time in thousands of years there is an inkling of something many of us thought impossible - unity in the spirit of life.
Let the Now people of Ireland and Britain remain forever apart if they will, remembering the wrongs, harbouring the resentment and blind to the far deeper reality of our past. But let the true people of the Isles see the profounder Truth that we cannot, should not be apart.
Let it start now. We have nothing to gain but our ancient heritage, and the soul of our people.
