Tesco once again made record profits and has pledged to use some of that profit in becoming more green. They are planning to put wind turbines on some of their stores and to improve and encourage more recycling. It seems to me that the use of alternative energy is a step in the right direction and in the long run will be a cost saver. I am sure Tesco are doing this as much for their image as social conscience but it could point other industries in the right direction and in the long run be a great environmental benefit. However Tesco are not great at being environmentally friendly their packaging needs attention so dose their attitude towards fair trade, their own recycling record is not as good as other stores ether.
What do you think could Tesco be showing the way would their planned use of green energy encourage others to follow or is it just a gimmick?

Well any improvement for a big company such as Tesco to use sustainable power and encourage recycling is a good thing - but I can't help thinking it's all to do with their image and not because they've suddenly become eco conscious. After all the trouble at Shepton Mallet I can't help but be pessimistic in this respect - but like I said - regardless of the reason's it's a good thing for any company to lookk towards.
